Real people living in neighborhoods and communities across America are making the point that American politics need to change. Americans want to talk about values. We want to talk about finding solutions to the issues facing our nation. But in the current political debate, too many politicians and commentators are poisoning the movement for change, and they're doing it by attacking immigrants. The Building America Together Campaign rises above this. The path to real change will be to make our values known.

I pledge that...

"We Must Build America Together"

Our politics and policies must reflect our core values as a nation by

  Promoting basic democratic principles,
Recognizing the contributions of all communities,
Rejecting the exploitation of workers, and
Holding politicians accountable for real solutions to the issues facing our nation.

As a nation, we are facing a clear choice about what side of history we will be on. Will we allow intolerance, demagoguery, and xenophobia to define our generation, or will we take a stand for an America that recognizes the contributions of all communities and transforms diversity into shared purpose and prosperity?

It is time to build America together. It is time to stand up to the politicians and commentators who are fanning the flames of insecurity and prejudice in ways that contribute to racial and ethnic hostility. It is time to stand in unity on a debate that threatens to divide Americans on other critical issues facing our nation, such as worker justice, healthcare, education, civil liberties and the environment.

America needs real solutions to our broken immigration system, including a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants, family unity, worker protections, and strengthened human rights and civil liberties for all Americans.

It is time we say NO to the politics of division and YES to bringing America together.

Therefore:

I commit to stand for America's finest ideals and core community values and publicly reject the politics of division and isolation that fan anger and hate against any person or community. I will work towards just, workable and humane immigration reform.
