Movement Will Hold Sec. Clinton to Strong Stance and Promise of Fighting for Immigrant Families

LAS VEGAS—The Fair Immigration Reform Movement (FIRM) today applauded Hillary Clinton for endorsing a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants. FIRM called on GOP presidential contenders to participate in a real debate about immigration reform rather than hide behind political double talk.

“Hillary Clinton just challenged the Republican party to a national debate on immigration reform,” said FIRM spokesperson Kica Matos. “It’s a debate Republican candidates don’t want because the most extremist elements of their base oppose moderation on the issue. And it’s a debate the money and strategy kings of the Republican Party don’t want because their party is blocking comprehensive immigration reform that would keep families together.”

“Republican presidential candidates can no longer stand behind their empty platitudes to our immigrant community trying to get our vote,” said Matos. “They must join a real conversation on how to fix an immigration system that breaks up families and keeps immigrants living in fear of deportation. Our immigrant families deserve an honest debate that offers us real solutions and works to keep families together.”

“By avoiding common sense solutions, Republicans are showing how deeply out of touch they are with the American public and the fastest growing voting bloc in America – immigrant and Latino voters,” said Matos. “The moment is now to show the American people and the immigrant community a different way. Join the debate and offer our families real solutions today. We are listening. We know who is against us. We will make our voice heard in 2016.”

“We applaud Sec. Clinton’s strong stance to do more for our families and we look forward to seeing how Sec. Clinton will dedicate herself to the fight of keeping our families together, making this a top priority in her campaign,” said Matos.
