Victories from International Workers’ Day Highlight Ongoing Battles for Workers’ and Immigrants’ Rights, Serve as Reminder to Opposition that Movement Continues to Fight Back

WASHINGTON—The Fair Immigration Reform Movement (FIRM) is commemorating May Day with rallies, marches, mobilizations and office visits to elected officials in California, Florida, Massachusetts, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Texas, and Wisconsin.

“Today, we honor the victories that have advanced the rights of workers and immigrant families, but we also remember that there is more to be done,” said FIRM spokesperson Kica Matos. “Our families deserve dignity and respect.”

“Our movement is strong and our commitment to fight for all our families is unwavering. As long as a xenophobic, anti-immigrant agenda in Congress continues to delay administrative relief, we will continue to fight for comprehensive immigration reform.”

“Let it be clear to all who stand against immigrant families: we will be in the frontlines fighting for our families–in the courts, in Congress, and wherever immigrant families are being attacked. And we will not forget who stood with us and who stood against us,” Matos added.

On this historic day of protest, FIRM joins Bmore United, a new citywide coalition of grassroots organizations in Baltimore working to address systemic inequality through grassroots organizing, leadership development, and advocacy, in a rally calling for justice for Freddie Gray.
