Fair Immigration Reform Movement Demands End to Suffering for Immigrant Families

(WASHINGTON)—The Fair Immigration Reform Movement (FIRM) today called on the Obama Administration, specifically the Justice Department, to use every tool available to lift the temporary injunction blocking administrative relief for millions of immigrants.

FIRM spokesperson Kica Matos said families should not have to wait to apply for the expanded Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) and the Deferred Action for Parents of Americans (DAPA) programs included in President Obama’s executive actions in the fall.

“Our families are frustrated over this delay — caused by a federal judge known for his anti-immigrant sentiments. Despite this, they are not deterred and will continue the fight to become full-fledged citizens of the country that they love,” Matos said. “FIRM groups will continue to educate their communities about the ruling, what it means, and why it is necessary to keep fighting until all our families are free from the fear of being separated from loved ones. We will not stop fighting until we end the suffering of our families and bring about reform.”

“While we believe that the appellate courts will fully support President Obama’s executive actions, time is of the essence. We urge the Administration, Department of Homeland Security and Justice Department officials to do all they can to allow our families to take advantage of the programs included in the President’s executive actions sooner rather than later,” Matos added.
