Yves’s Story

Yves’s story was recently picked up by the Boston Globe:

Yves was 14 months old when his parents brought him to the United States, from India, in 1995. Like most undocumented immigrants, they came here with a visa, but it lapsed while they were applying for permanent residency. Now Gomes, who just graduated with honors from Silver Springs High School in Maryland, faces deportation to a country he has never even visited.

This story, part of the We Are America stories project, is particularly touching, especially since we’re able to hear from Yves’s family.  Yves’s story reminds us that underneath the fear-mongering are stories of real people struggling in our broken immigration system.

We need just and humane solutions to the immigration crisis.
